A tribute to the more than 10 indigenous women ranging in age from 15 to 60 from the Chana community in Tenejapa, Chiapas (Mexico) who, through the production of speciality coffee, have woven a narrative of resistance and renewal. These women, who since childhood, have created an intimate connection with the land, as matriarchs and community leaders, have turned their work into a manifestation of resilience in the face of social, economic and climatic adversities. This exhibition is a visual tribute to their resilience, highlighting their vital role in the land and their communities.
In Mexico, the participation of women in coffee production has been significant and increasing. It is estimated that around 30% of people dedicated to coffee production in the country are women. The work of women in cooperatives and coffee-producing organizations has been fundamental to strengthening the social and economic fabric of rural communities, promoting gender equality and local development.
Women have knowledge and skills that they have preserved within their own indigenous or rural communities, and that provide great value for coffee production, its trade and the generation of female employment.
